Free up app storage

Free up Amazon storage

Amazon caches product photos, A+ videos, and Prime clips you preview. Downloads you started in Prime Video, Kindle, or Amazon Photos are separate and can be large. Orders and lists stay on your Amazon account.

See how much space Amazon is using

iPhone

  1. Open the iPhone Settings app.
  2. Tap General > iPhone Storage.
  3. Tap Amazon.

Android

  1. Open your phone Settings > Apps (or Apps and notifications).
  2. Tap Amazon.
  3. Tap Storage or Storage and cache.

The Amazon Shopping app is mostly image cache. Prime Video downloads live in that other app if you use it.

Clear product photos and video cache

Amazon keeps listing images and product videos so the feed scrolls smoothly. That cache is safe to drop. Saved items, orders, and your cart stay on the account.

  1. Open Amazon and tap your profile or the person icon.
  2. Open Settings (or Account > Settings).
  3. Look for Clear cache, Storage, or Free up space.
  4. Confirm the clear if Amazon shows a size.

If there is no in-app button, use Android Clear cache below. The next browse will download images again.

Amazon Shopping may not show a cache button on every version. Android Clear cache still works.

Product videos vs Prime downloads

A product page video is cache. A movie you downloaded in Prime Video is a real download. Clear those titles inside Prime Video, not here. Kindle books are in the Kindle app.

Clear Amazon cache on Android

  1. Open your phone Settings > Apps > Amazon.
  2. Tap Storage or Storage and cache.
  3. Tap Clear cache.

Do not tap Clear storage / Clear data unless you mean to reset Amazon on this phone. That signs you out of Amazon Shopping. Orders stay on the account. Prime Video and Kindle downloads are separate apps.

iPhone does not offer a separate Amazon cache button. Use the in-app steps on this page, or offload the app in iPhone Storage if the system total stays high.

Reinstall the app if storage is still high

If you already cleaned media and Amazon still looks huge, a fresh install can clear leftover cache and temp files that are hard to reach by hand.

  1. Orders, saved items, and your account stay with the store. You only need to sign in again after reinstall.
  2. Delete the app from your phone.
  3. Restart your phone.
  4. Install Amazon again from the App Store or Google Play.
  5. Sign in and restore from backup if the app offers it.

This often frees a lot of space. You may need to download some media again after restore.

What to do next

After Amazon is lighter, check your photo library for duplicates and similar shots. That is what Dedupo is for.
