Free up app storage

Free up Amazon Prime Video storage

Prime Video stores offline movies and episodes, plus a watch cache (including X-Ray artwork and extras) so titles open fast. Your Watchlist and purchases stay on the Amazon account. Removing a download only deletes the file on this phone.

See how much space Prime Video is using

iPhone

  1. Open the iPhone Settings app.
  2. Tap General > iPhone Storage.
  3. Tap Prime Video or Amazon Prime Video.

Android

  1. Open your phone Settings > Apps.
  2. Tap Amazon Prime Video.
  3. Tap Storage or Storage and cache.

Prime Video does not have a WhatsApp-style storage screen. Open Downloads (or My Stuff > Downloads) to see files on this phone.

Delete downloads

  1. Open Prime Video and tap Downloads, or open My Stuff and tap Downloads.
  2. Tap a title, then tap the download icon or Delete download.

Movies and full seasons take the most space. The title stays in My Stuff and can be downloaded again later.

Turn off auto downloads and lower quality

  1. Open Prime Video Settings (profile or menu).
  2. Open Downloads or Download settings.
  3. Turn off Auto Downloads if it is on.
  4. Set a lower download quality, and use Wi-Fi only if that toggle is shown.

Auto Downloads can add the next episode after you watch. X-Ray extras also add cache while you play a title, but downloads are usually the large number.

Clear Prime Video cache on Android

  1. Open your phone Settings > Apps > Amazon Prime Video.
  2. Tap Storage or Storage and cache.
  3. Tap Clear cache.

Do not tap Clear storage / Clear data unless you mean to reset Prime Video on this phone. That signs you out and removes local downloads. Watchlist and purchases stay on your Amazon account.

iPhone does not offer a separate Prime Video cache button. Delete items under Downloads, or offload the app in iPhone Storage if the system total stays high.

Reinstall the app if storage is still high

If you already cleaned media and Amazon Prime Video still looks huge, a fresh install can clear leftover cache and temp files that are hard to reach by hand.

  1. Downloads will need to be re-downloaded after you sign in. Your Amazon account keeps Watchlist, purchases, and rentals.
  2. Delete the app from your phone.
  3. Restart your phone.
  4. Install Amazon Prime Video again from the App Store or Google Play.
  5. Sign in and restore from backup if the app offers it.

This often frees a lot of space. You may need to download some media again after restore.

What to do next

After Prime Video is lighter, check your photo library for duplicates and similar shots. That is what Dedupo is for.
