Free up Apple TV storage

The Apple TV app stores movies and shows you download for offline viewing, plus a watch cache for sports and Up Next. Purchases, rentals, and Up Next stay on your Apple Account. Removing a download only deletes the file on this phone.

See how much space Apple TV is using

iPhone

1. Open the iPhone Settings app.
2. Tap General > iPhone Storage.
3. Tap TV.

Android

1. Open your phone Settings > Apps.
2. Tap Apple TV.
3. Tap Storage or Storage and cache.

The TV app does not have a WhatsApp-style storage screen. Open Library and look at downloads to see what is on this phone.

Remove Library downloads

1. Open the TV app and tap Library.
2. Open downloaded movies or shows (often listed under downloads in Library).
3. Swipe or tap a title, then tap Remove Download.

The title stays in Library and Up Next. You can download it again later over Wi-Fi.

Stop automatic downloads

1. Open the iPhone Settings app and tap TV (or open TV app settings on Android).
2. Review download and streaming quality.
3. Turn off cellular downloads if that toggle is shown.

Sports and live events can leave a larger playback cache after a long watch. Deleting finished downloads is still the biggest win.

Clear Apple TV cache on Android

1. Open your phone Settings > Apps > Apple TV.
2. Tap Storage or Storage and cache.
3. Tap Clear cache.

Do not tap Clear storage / Clear data unless you mean to reset Apple TV on this phone. That signs you out and removes local downloads. Purchases and Up Next stay on your Apple Account.

iPhone does not offer a separate TV cache button. Remove Library downloads, or offload TV in iPhone Storage if the system total stays high.

Reinstall the app if storage is still high

If you already cleaned media and Apple TV still looks huge, a fresh install can clear leftover cache and temp files that are hard to reach by hand.

1. Downloads will need to be re-downloaded after you sign in. Your Apple Account keeps purchases, rentals, and Up Next.
2. Delete the app from your phone.
3. Restart your phone.
4. Install Apple TV again from the App Store or Google Play.
5. Sign in and restore from backup if the app offers it.

This often frees a lot of space. You may need to download some media again after restore.
