Free up Audible storage
Audible stores downloaded audiobooks, podcasts, and short clips on the phone so they play offline. Titles stay in your Audible library. Removing a download only deletes the file on this device.
See how much space Audible is using
iPhone
- Open the iPhone Settings app.
- Tap General > iPhone Storage.
- Tap Audible.
Android
- Open your phone Settings > Apps.
- Tap Audible.
- Tap Storage or Storage and cache.
Audible does not have a WhatsApp-style storage screen. Open Library and filter to downloaded titles.
Remove downloaded titles
- Open Audible and tap Library.
- Filter to downloaded titles if you see that option.
- Tap the menu on a book (three dots), then tap Remove download or Remove from device.
The title stays in your library and your place in the book stays on the account. You can download it again later.
Remove clips and finished books
- In Library, start with titles you already finished.
- Also remove sample clips and podcast episodes you do not need offline.
Long titles at higher quality are the largest files. Removing a few finished books often frees more space than clearing cache.
Change download settings
- Open Audible and tap your profile.
- Tap Settings.
- Open download quality or Data Saver if listed.
- Turn off automatic downloads for new titles if that option is on.
New purchases can download in the background and fill the phone again after a cleanup.
Clear Audible cache on Android
- Open your phone Settings > Apps > Audible.
- Tap Storage or Storage and cache.
- Tap Clear cache.
Do not tap Clear storage / Clear data unless you mean to reset Audible on this phone. That signs you out and removes local downloads. Purchased titles stay in your Audible library.
iPhone does not offer a separate Audible cache button. Remove downloads in Library, or offload the app in iPhone Storage if the system total stays high.
Reinstall the app if storage is still high
If you already cleaned media and Audible still looks huge, a fresh install can clear leftover cache and temp files that are hard to reach by hand.
- Downloaded titles will need to be re-downloaded after you sign in. Your Audible library, bookmarks, and listening position stay on the account.
- Delete the app from your phone.
- Restart your phone.
- Install Audible again from the App Store or Google Play.
- Sign in and restore from backup if the app offers it.
This often frees a lot of space. You may need to download some media again after restore.
What to do next
After Audible is lighter, check your photo library for duplicates and similar shots. That is what Dedupo is for.
