Free up Bear storage

Bear notes include images and file attachments inside the note. Those files are the note. iCloud (Bear Pro) syncs them. There is little disposable cache. Deleting a note or emptying Trash can permanently remove the only copy if it is not in iCloud.

See how much space Bear is using

  1. Open the iPhone Settings app.
  2. Tap General > iPhone Storage.
  3. Tap Bear.

Confirm iCloud before you delete

  1. Open Bear > Settings and check iCloud / sync if you use Bear Pro.
  2. Export notes with attachments (Markdown, PDF, or Bear backup) to Files for anything that is local only.

Photos and files inside a note are not a separate cache. Removing an image from a note deletes that attachment from the note.

Trash

  1. Open the Trash in Bear.
  2. Recover notes you still want.
  3. Empty Trash only if you mean to permanently delete those notes and their attachments.

Reinstall the app if storage is still high

If you already cleaned media and Bear still looks huge, a fresh install can clear leftover cache and temp files that are hard to reach by hand.

  1. Export a Bear backup or confirm iCloud has finished syncing. Images and file attachments live inside notes. Reinstalling without a backup can permanently delete them.
  2. Delete the app from your phone.
  3. Restart your phone.
  4. Install Bear again from the App Store or Google Play.
  5. Sign in and restore from backup if the app offers it.

This often frees a lot of space. You may need to download some media again after restore.

What to do next

After Bear is lighter, check your photo library for duplicates and similar shots. That is what Dedupo is for.
