Free up Bluesky storage
Bluesky caches feed images and videos. Post text lives on your account. Composer drafts can store media on this phone even when draft metadata is saved to Bluesky. There is no WhatsApp-style Free up Storage screen.
See how much space Bluesky is using
iPhone
- Open the iPhone Settings app.
- Tap General > iPhone Storage.
- Tap Bluesky.
Android
- Open your phone Settings > Apps (or Apps and notifications).
- Tap Bluesky.
- Tap Storage or Storage and cache.
Delete drafts
- Open compose.
- Tap Drafts in the composer if you see it.
- Delete drafts you do not need. Video drafts are the largest local files.
Draft text can live on Bluesky. Attached photos and videos are often cached on this device. Deleting the draft is what frees that media.
Saved images on the phone
If you saved a post image to Photos or Gallery, that copy is outside Bluesky. Delete it there, including Recently Deleted / Trash.
Clear Bluesky cache on Android
- Open your phone Settings > Apps > Bluesky.
- Tap Storage or Storage and cache.
- Tap Clear cache.
Do not tap Clear storage / Clear data unless you mean to reset Bluesky. That signs you out and can drop local draft media.
iPhone does not offer a separate Bluesky cache button. Offload or delete the app in iPhone Storage if the system total stays high.
Reinstall the app if storage is still high
If you already cleaned media and Bluesky still looks huge, a fresh install can clear leftover cache and temp files that are hard to reach by hand.
- Posts stay on Bluesky. Draft photos and videos can be local, so save anything you still need.
- Delete the app from your phone.
- Restart your phone.
- Install Bluesky again from the App Store or Google Play.
- Sign in and restore from backup if the app offers it.
This often frees a lot of space. You may need to download some media again after restore.
What to do next
After Bluesky is lighter, check your photo library for duplicates and similar shots. That is what Dedupo is for.
