Free up CapCut storage
CapCut stores drafts, imported clips, effects, and export files on this phone. Cache is safe to clear. Local drafts are not. CapCut Support warns that clearing app data or uninstalling can permanently delete local projects unless they are in Cloud Space.
See how much space CapCut is using
- Open CapCut and tap Me (profile).
- Tap the gear (Settings).
- Tap Storage or Clear cache if listed. The size shown is local cache and related files.
iPhone
- Open iPhone Settings > General > iPhone Storage > CapCut.
Android
- Open your phone Settings > Apps > CapCut > Storage or Storage and cache.
Clear cache
- Open Me > Settings.
- Tap Storage or Clear cache.
- Confirm. Some versions also show a trash icon next to cache size under Draft settings.
This removes temporary render and effect files. It should not delete your project list. Do not clear CapCut app data in phone Settings.
Delete drafts you do not need
- On the CapCut home / Projects screen, find the draft.
- Open the menu on that project (...).
- Tap Delete. Export to Photos first if you still want the video.
Drafts with long 4K clips are usually the largest items. Cloud drafts are safer than local-only ones.
Upload keepers to Cloud Space
- Open the project.
- Use backup / upload to Cloud Space if CapCut offers it on your account.
Only then is it reasonably safe to offload, reinstall, or clear leftover files.
Exports in Photos or Gallery
Finished videos often save to Photos or Gallery as a second copy. Delete extra exports there, including Recently Deleted / Trash. Then you can delete the matching CapCut draft.
Clear CapCut cache on Android
- Open your phone Settings > Apps > CapCut.
- Tap Storage or Storage and cache.
- Tap Clear cache only.
Do not tap Clear storage / Clear data. CapCut Support says that permanently deletes local projects.
iPhone does not offer a separate CapCut cache button. Use Settings > Storage / Clear cache inside CapCut. Offload only after Cloud Space backup.
Reinstall the app if storage is still high
If you already cleaned media and CapCut still looks huge, a fresh install can clear leftover cache and temp files that are hard to reach by hand.
- Upload important projects to CapCut Cloud Space first. Local drafts are deleted if you uninstall or clear app data.
- Delete the app from your phone.
- Restart your phone.
- Install CapCut again from the App Store or Google Play.
- Sign in and restore from backup if the app offers it.
This often frees a lot of space. You may need to download some media again after restore.
What to do next
After CapCut is lighter, check your photo library for duplicates and similar shots. That is what Dedupo is for.
