Free up app storage

Free up Claude storage

Claude chats, Projects, and attachments live in your Anthropic account. The phone holds cache, file previews, and anything you saved to Files or Photos. Clearing cache does not delete cloud chats or Projects.

See how much space Claude is using

iPhone

  1. Open the iPhone Settings app.
  2. Tap General > iPhone Storage.
  3. Tap Claude.

Android

  1. Open your phone Settings > Apps.
  2. Tap Claude.
  3. Tap Storage or Storage and cache.

Claude does not have a per-chat storage manager. A large number is almost always cache or leftover downloads, not the full Project library sitting on the device.

Delete files you downloaded from chats

  1. Open Files or Downloads and delete artifacts, PDFs, or images you exported from Claude.
  2. Remove saved pictures in Photos or Gallery, then empty Recently Deleted / Trash.

Attachments in a Project stay in the account. Deleting the local copy does not remove them there.

Projects and chat history

Removing a Project or using Claude Settings to delete conversations is an account action. Do that only if you want the history gone. It is not the right tool for freeing phone storage.

Clear Claude cache on Android

  1. Open your phone Settings > Apps > Claude.
  2. Tap Storage or Storage and cache.
  3. Tap Clear cache.

Do not tap Clear storage / Clear data unless you mean to sign out and reset the app. Chats and Projects come back after you sign in.

iPhone does not offer a separate Claude cache button. Offload in iPhone Storage if the total stays high after you delete exports.

Reinstall the app if storage is still high

If you already cleaned media and Claude still looks huge, a fresh install can clear leftover cache and temp files that are hard to reach by hand.

  1. Chats, Projects, and attachments stay in your Anthropic account. Save files that exist only on this phone. Reinstalling does not delete cloud chats.
  2. Delete the app from your phone.
  3. Restart your phone.
  4. Install Claude again from the App Store or Google Play.
  5. Sign in and restore from backup if the app offers it.

This often frees a lot of space. You may need to download some media again after restore.

What to do next

After Claude is lighter, check your photo library for duplicates and similar shots. That is what Dedupo is for.
