Free up Discord storage
Discord caches images, videos, GIFs, stickers, and server media so chats open fast. That cache can grow to several gigabytes. Messages stay on Discord. Clearing cache does not delete servers, DMs, or your account.
See how much space Discord is using
iPhone
- Open the iPhone Settings app.
- Tap General > iPhone Storage.
- Tap Discord.
Android
- Open your phone Settings > Apps.
- Tap Discord.
- Tap Storage or Storage and cache.
Discord does not have a WhatsApp-style per-chat storage list. The number you see is mostly cache plus the app itself.
Clear caches inside Discord (iPhone)
- Open Discord and tap your profile picture (You tab).
- Tap the gear (Settings).
- Tap Advanced and turn on Developer Mode.
- Go back to Settings and scroll to the bottom.
- Tap Clear caches (some versions say Clear Caches).
You can turn Developer Mode off again after this. If the button is missing, offload or reinstall Discord instead.
Clear Discord cache on Android
- Open your phone Settings > Apps > Discord.
- Tap Storage or Storage and cache.
- Tap Clear cache.
Do not tap Clear storage / Clear data unless you mean to sign out and reset the app.
Stop GIFs and stickers from autoplaying
- Open Discord Settings.
- Tap Accessibility.
- Turn off automatic playback for GIFs and animated emoji, and set stickers to never animate.
Less autoplay means less media kept ready in cache.
Offload Discord on iPhone
- Open iPhone Settings > General > iPhone Storage.
- Tap Discord.
- Tap Offload App, then Reinstall App.
Offload removes the app binary and keeps login data. Use it when Documents and Data is not the huge number, or after Clear caches if the total is still high.
Reinstall the app if storage is still high
If you already cleaned media and Discord still looks huge, a fresh install can clear leftover cache and temp files that are hard to reach by hand.
- You do not need a chat backup. Servers and DMs stay on your Discord account. Sign back in after reinstall.
- Delete the app from your phone.
- Restart your phone.
- Install Discord again from the App Store or Google Play.
- Sign in and restore from backup if the app offers it.
This often frees a lot of space. You may need to download some media again after restore.
What to do next
After Discord is lighter, check your photo library for duplicates and similar shots. That is what Dedupo is for.
