Free up app storage

Free up Evernote storage

Evernote notes and attachments live in your Evernote account unless a notebook is local-only. This phone stores offline notebooks, downloaded attachments, and cache. Clearing cache does not delete synced notes. Deleting a note or emptying Trash does. Attachments (PDFs, images, audio) are the note content. Treat deletes as real data loss until you confirm a cloud copy.

See how much space Evernote is using

iPhone

  1. Open the iPhone Settings app.
  2. Tap General > iPhone Storage.
  3. Tap Evernote.

Android

  1. Open your phone Settings > Apps.
  2. Tap Evernote.
  3. Tap Storage or Storage and cache.

Offline notebooks

  1. Open Evernote settings.
  2. Open Notebooks / offline notebooks.
  3. Turn offline off for notebooks you can open from the account later.

Synced notes stay in Evernote. Local notebooks that were never synced exist only on this phone.

Attachments

PDFs, photos, and scans inside a note are the data. Removing an attachment from a note deletes that file from the note (and from the account after sync). That is not cache. Export first if you might need it.

Trash

Deleted notes go to Trash. Emptying Trash permanently deletes them from the account.

Clear Evernote cache on Android

  1. Open your phone Settings > Apps > Evernote.
  2. Tap Storage or Storage and cache.
  3. Tap Clear cache.

Do not tap Clear storage / Clear data unless you mean to sign out. Unsynced notes and local-only notebooks can be lost.

Reinstall the app if storage is still high

If you already cleaned media and Evernote still looks huge, a fresh install can clear leftover cache and temp files that are hard to reach by hand.

  1. Wait until all notebooks finish syncing. Export local-only notebooks. Attachments are inside notes; they will not survive a reinstall unless they are already in the Evernote account.
  2. Delete the app from your phone.
  3. Restart your phone.
  4. Install Evernote again from the App Store or Google Play.
  5. Sign in and restore from backup if the app offers it.

This often frees a lot of space. You may need to download some media again after restore.

What to do next

After Evernote is lighter, check your photo library for duplicates and similar shots. That is what Dedupo is for.
