Free up Flickr storage
Flickr caches images so the app loads faster. Photos you already uploaded stay on Flickr. Unsynced Auto-Uploadr files can still sit on this phone. Flickr Help documents Trash your cache on iPhone and Android system Clear cache.
See how much space Flickr is using
iPhone
- Open the iPhone Settings app.
- Tap General > iPhone Storage.
- Tap Flickr.
Android
- Open your phone Settings > Apps (or Apps and notifications).
- Tap Flickr.
- Tap Storage or Storage and cache.
There is no WhatsApp-style Free up Storage screen. Cache plus waiting uploads are the local bulk.
Trash your cache (iPhone)
- Open Flickr and tap the three-dot menu.
- Open your profile.
- Tap Trash your cache and confirm.
Flickr Help: cache is stored so images do not reload every time. After you clear it, loading can be a bit slower. Uploaded photos stay on Flickr.
Auto-Uploadr and local copies
- In the Flickr app profile / settings, check Auto-Uploadr (Pro).
- Turn it off if you do not want Flickr copying new Camera Roll photos into the app.
Photos already on Flickr remain. Files still waiting to upload live on this phone until they finish. Do not delete the app in the middle of an upload if those photos exist only in the upload queue.
Downloads in Photos
If you saved a Flickr photo to the camera roll, that copy is in Photos or Gallery. Delete extras there, including Recently Deleted / Trash.
Clear Flickr cache on Android
- Open your phone Settings > Apps > Flickr.
- Tap Storage or Storage and cache.
- Tap Clear cache.
Flickr Help points Android users here. Do not tap Clear storage / Clear data unless you mean to reset Flickr. That signs you out and can drop unsynced uploads.
iPhone: use Trash your cache inside Flickr. System Settings has no separate Flickr cache button.
Reinstall the app if storage is still high
If you already cleaned media and Flickr still looks huge, a fresh install can clear leftover cache and temp files that are hard to reach by hand.
- Photos stay on Flickr if they already uploaded. Unsynced uploads on this phone can be lost.
- Delete the app from your phone.
- Restart your phone.
- Install Flickr again from the App Store or Google Play.
- Sign in and restore from backup if the app offers it.
This often frees a lot of space. You may need to download some media again after restore.
What to do next
After Flickr is lighter, check your photo library for duplicates and similar shots. That is what Dedupo is for.
