Free up app storage

Free up Garmin Connect storage

Garmin Connect caches activities and photos you attach so the phone can show them. Uploaded workouts stay on your Garmin account. The phone app is not where Garmin stores watch maps or watch music. Those files live on the watch, or in Garmin Explore if you downloaded offline maps there.

See how much space Garmin Connect is using

iPhone

  1. Open the iPhone Settings app.
  2. Tap General > iPhone Storage.
  3. Tap Garmin Connect.

Android

  1. Open your phone Settings > Apps (or Apps and notifications).
  2. Tap Garmin Connect.
  3. Tap Storage or Storage and cache.

Years of activities plus photos can make Connect look large. There is no WhatsApp-style Free up Storage screen.

Activity photos

  1. Open an activity in Garmin Connect.
  2. Garmin documents adding up to 10 photos from the camera button on an activity.
  3. Remove photos you do not need. Copies in Camera Roll stay until you delete them there.

The GPS activity stays on Garmin if you only remove a photo. Clearing Android cache does not delete the activity list.

Watch maps and music

Offline maps and playlists you sent to a Garmin watch use watch storage. Garmin Support documents deleting activity files on the device to free watch space. That is separate from the phone app. For phone offline maps, use Garmin Explore downloads, not Connect.

Clear Garmin Connect cache on Android

  1. Open your phone Settings > Apps > Garmin Connect.
  2. Tap Storage or Storage and cache.
  3. Tap Clear cache.

Do not tap Clear storage / Clear data unless you mean to reset Garmin Connect on this phone. That signs you out. Cloud activities stay. You may need to pair the watch again.

iPhone does not offer a separate Garmin Connect cache button. Use the in-app steps on this page, or offload the app in iPhone Storage if the system total stays high.

Reinstall the app if storage is still high

If you already cleaned media and Garmin Connect still looks huge, a fresh install can clear leftover cache and temp files that are hard to reach by hand.

  1. Activities stay on your Garmin account. Pair the watch again after you sign in. Watch maps and music stay on the watch until you remove them there.
  2. Delete the app from your phone.
  3. Restart your phone.
  4. Install Garmin Connect again from the App Store or Google Play.
  5. Sign in and restore from backup if the app offers it.

This often frees a lot of space. You may need to download some media again after restore.

What to do next

After Garmin Connect is lighter, check your photo library for duplicates and similar shots. That is what Dedupo is for.
