Free up Goodnotes storage
In Goodnotes, the notebooks, PDFs, and images are your data. There is little disposable cache compared with a chat app. Deleting a notebook or emptying Recently Deleted can permanently remove the only copy if it is not also in iCloud or an export.
See how much space Goodnotes is using
- Open the iPhone or iPad Settings app.
- Tap General > iPhone Storage / iPad Storage.
- Tap Goodnotes.
Documents and Data is almost entirely notebooks and attached PDFs, not leftover cache.
Confirm iCloud before you delete anything
- Open Goodnotes settings.
- Check iCloud / backup (wording depends on Goodnotes version).
- Export any notebook that is not synced: share as PDF or Goodnotes file to Files or another cloud.
Attachments inside a notebook (imported PDFs, photos, audio) are part of that notebook. They are not a separate cache you can clear without losing the page.
Remove notebooks you do not need
- In the library, tap and hold a notebook or folder.
- Tap Delete only after you have an export or iCloud copy.
Deleted items go to Recently Deleted for a limited time, then they are permanently gone. Emptying Recently Deleted is permanent.
Elements and leftover imports
Stickers and Elements packs use space. Remove packs you do not use from Elements settings. That is optional content, still not the same as deleting a class notebook.
Reinstall the app if storage is still high
If you already cleaned media and Goodnotes still looks huge, a fresh install can clear leftover cache and temp files that are hard to reach by hand.
- Export notebooks to Files or confirm iCloud has finished syncing. Attachments live inside those notebooks. Reinstalling without a backup can permanently delete your notes.
- Delete the app from your phone.
- Restart your phone.
- Install Goodnotes again from the App Store or Google Play.
- Sign in and restore from backup if the app offers it.
This often frees a lot of space. You may need to download some media again after restore.
What to do next
After Goodnotes is lighter, check your photo library for duplicates and similar shots. That is what Dedupo is for.
