Free up app storage

Free up Google Gemini storage

Gemini chats, Gems, and most uploaded files live in your Google account. What uses space on this phone is cache, generated images you saved, and leftover voice or preview files. Clearing cache does not delete Gemini chats. Turning off Gemini Apps Activity or deleting a chat is an account action, not a way to reclaim gigabytes here.

See how much space Gemini is using

iPhone

  1. Open the iPhone Settings app.
  2. Tap General > iPhone Storage.
  3. Tap Google Gemini or Gemini.

Android

  1. Open your phone Settings > Apps.
  2. Tap Google Gemini or Gemini.
  3. Tap Storage or Storage and cache.

On some Android phones Gemini is bundled with the Google app. If you cannot find a separate Gemini listing, check Google storage as well.

Delete saved images and files

  1. Open Photos, Gallery, or Google Photos and delete images you saved from Gemini.
  2. Empty Recently Deleted / Trash.
  3. In Files or Downloads, delete exported pictures or documents you no longer need.

Generated images stay in the Gemini chat on your account even after you delete the local copy.

Gems and Gemini Apps Activity

Gems are saved in the account. Removing a Gem does not shrink the app much on the phone. Gemini Apps Activity (in your Google account) is a history control. Clearing it does not replace Clear cache on Android or offloading the app on iPhone.

Clear Gemini cache on Android

  1. Open your phone Settings > Apps > Gemini.
  2. Tap Storage or Storage and cache.
  3. Tap Clear cache.

Do not tap Clear storage / Clear data unless you mean to reset Gemini on this phone. You will sign in with Google again. Chats stay with the account.

iPhone does not offer a separate Gemini cache button. Offload or reinstall if iPhone Storage still shows a large total after you remove saved images.

Reinstall the app if storage is still high

If you already cleaned media and Google Gemini still looks huge, a fresh install can clear leftover cache and temp files that are hard to reach by hand.

  1. Chats and Gems stay in your Google account. Save any images that exist only on this phone. Reinstalling does not delete Gemini cloud chats.
  2. Delete the app from your phone.
  3. Restart your phone.
  4. Install Google Gemini again from the App Store or Google Play.
  5. Sign in and restore from backup if the app offers it.

This often frees a lot of space. You may need to download some media again after restore.

What to do next

After Gemini is lighter, check your photo library for duplicates and similar shots. That is what Dedupo is for.
