Free up Google Keep storage
Keep notes sync to your Google account. Images, drawings, and voice notes are the bulky part. They are the note content, not leftover cache. Clearing cache does not delete Keep notes. Emptying Keep Trash does.
See how much space Keep is using
iPhone
- Open the iPhone Settings app.
- Tap General > iPhone Storage.
- Tap Keep.
Android
- Open your phone Settings > Apps.
- Tap Keep notes (or Google Keep).
- Tap Storage or Storage and cache.
Images, drawings, and voice notes
- Open a note that has a photo, drawing, or recording.
- Remove that attachment only if you mean to change the note.
Those files are the data. After sync, deleting them removes them from Keep on every device. Export or copy first if you might need them.
Archive vs Trash
Archive hides a note. It still uses Keep storage. Trash holds deleted notes for 7 days, then they are permanently deleted. Empty Trash only if you mean that.
Clear Keep cache on Android
- Open your phone Settings > Apps > Keep.
- Tap Storage or Storage and cache.
- Tap Clear cache.
Do not tap Clear storage / Clear data unless you mean to sign out. Unsynced notes on this phone can be lost.
Reinstall the app if storage is still high
If you already cleaned media and Google Keep still looks huge, a fresh install can clear leftover cache and temp files that are hard to reach by hand.
- Wait until notes finish syncing. Images, drawings, and voice notes are inside those notes. Unsynced items on this phone will not come back.
- Delete the app from your phone.
- Restart your phone.
- Install Google Keep again from the App Store or Google Play.
- Sign in and restore from backup if the app offers it.
This often frees a lot of space. You may need to download some media again after restore.
What to do next
After Google Keep is lighter, check your photo library for duplicates and similar shots. That is what Dedupo is for.
