Free up app storage

Free up Google Meet storage

Google Meet caches call history, chat from meetings, and leftover session files on this phone. Attachments you tap to download also sit in Files or Downloads. Meeting recordings for work or school usually live in Google Drive, not as a second movie inside Meet.

See how much space Google Meet is using

iPhone

  1. Open the iPhone Settings app.
  2. Tap General > iPhone Storage.
  3. Tap Google Meet or Meet.

Android

  1. Open your phone Settings > Apps.
  2. Tap Google Meet or Meet.
  3. Tap Storage or Storage and cache.

Meet does not have a WhatsApp-style Free up Storage screen. Use the system total, then delete history and downloaded files.

Delete Meet call history

  1. Open Meet and tap the menu (your profile or the menu icon).
  2. Tap Settings > History.
  3. Tap Delete all history, then Delete.

Google documents this path. Meet call history is synced across devices signed into the same account. A delete here removes it everywhere that history is shown.

Auto-delete old history

  1. Open Meet > Settings > History.
  2. Tap Autodelete.
  3. Choose 3 months, 18 months, or 36 months instead of Never.

This trims Meet history over time. It does not remove files you already saved outside the app.

Delete downloaded attachments

  1. Open Files or Downloads on the phone.
  2. Delete slides, PDFs, and videos you saved from a meeting chat.
  3. If the recording is in Drive, open Google Drive, find the Meet recording, and remove it there (and empty Drive trash).

Clearing Meet cache does not delete Drive recordings or files already saved to the phone.

Clear Google Meet cache on Android

  1. Open your phone Settings > Apps > Google Meet.
  2. Tap Storage or Storage and cache.
  3. Tap Clear cache.

Do not tap Clear storage / Clear data unless you mean to reset Meet and sign in again.

iPhone does not offer a separate Meet cache button. Offload or delete the app in iPhone Storage if the system total stays high after you delete downloads.

Reinstall the app if storage is still high

If you already cleaned media and Google Meet still looks huge, a fresh install can clear leftover cache and temp files that are hard to reach by hand.

  1. You do not need a meeting backup. Calendar events and Drive recordings stay on your Google account. Sign in again after reinstall.
  2. Delete the app from your phone.
  3. Restart your phone.
  4. Install Google Meet again from the App Store or Google Play.
  5. Sign in and restore from backup if the app offers it.

This often frees a lot of space. You may need to download some media again after restore.

What to do next

After Google Meet is lighter, check your photo library for duplicates and similar shots. That is what Dedupo is for.
