Free up Google Slides storage
Decks live in Drive. This phone stores presentations you made available offline, plus cached images and video from those decks. Clearing cache does not delete Drive files. Emptying Drive Trash does.
See how much space Slides is using
iPhone
- Open the iPhone Settings app.
- Tap General > iPhone Storage.
- Tap Slides.
Android
- Open your phone Settings > Apps.
- Tap Slides.
- Tap Storage or Storage and cache.
Turn off Make available offline
- Open Google Slides.
- Tap the menu > Offline.
- Next to a deck, tap More and turn off Available offline / Make available offline.
The presentation stays in Drive. Offline copies of image-heavy decks are often several hundred MB each.
Recent files cache
- Open Slides > menu > Settings.
- Turn off Make recent files available offline if you do not need recents on the phone.
That is cache of recent decks and their media, not a delete of Drive files.
Autosave cache vs your deck
Online edits autosave to Drive. Wait until saving finishes before you clear app data. Unsynced local edits can be lost.
Clear Slides cache on Android
- Open your phone Settings > Apps > Slides.
- Tap Storage or Storage and cache.
- Tap Clear cache.
Do not tap Clear storage / Clear data unless you mean to sign out.
Reinstall the app if storage is still high
If you already cleaned media and Google Slides still looks huge, a fresh install can clear leftover cache and temp files that are hard to reach by hand.
- Presentations in Drive stay. Wait until Offline edits finish saving. Export any local-only draft first.
- Delete the app from your phone.
- Restart your phone.
- Install Google Slides again from the App Store or Google Play.
- Sign in and restore from backup if the app offers it.
This often frees a lot of space. You may need to download some media again after restore.
What to do next
After Google Slides is lighter, check your photo library for duplicates and similar shots. That is what Dedupo is for.
