Free up Google Wallet storage
Google Wallet is usually small. It stores passes, payment cards, and a little cache for transit or tickets. Clearing cache can refresh art. It will not turn a 200 MB Wallet into several free gigabytes.
See how much space Google Wallet is using
iPhone
- Open the iPhone Settings app.
- Tap General > iPhone Storage.
- Tap Google Wallet.
Android
- Open your phone Settings > Apps (or Apps and notifications).
- Tap Google Wallet.
- Tap Storage or Storage and cache.
If Wallet looks huge, something else (a saved pass image in Photos, or another app) is probably the real number.
What is actually here
Boarding passes, event tickets, and cards are small files. Google keeps the pass data on your account. Local copies are for tap-to-pay and offline show-the-QR.
You can remove a pass you no longer need: open the pass > menu > Remove. That is honest cleanup. Do not expect game-sized savings.
Cache only
Android Clear cache drops leftover art. Do not clear data unless you mean to set up Wallet again. Cards can take time to provision after a reset.
Clear Google Wallet cache on Android
- Open your phone Settings > Apps > Google Wallet.
- Tap Storage or Storage and cache.
- Tap Clear cache.
Do not tap Clear storage / Clear data unless you mean to reset Google Wallet on this phone. Clear data removes local cards and passes until they sync again. Pay with your physical card until Wallet is ready.
iPhone does not offer a separate Google Wallet cache button. Use the in-app steps on this page, or offload the app in iPhone Storage if the system total stays high.
Reinstall the app if storage is still high
If you already cleaned media and Google Wallet still looks huge, a fresh install can clear leftover cache and temp files that are hard to reach by hand.
- Passes and cards stay on your Google account, but you may need to add some cards again. Wallet is small. A reinstall rarely frees a lot of space.
- Delete the app from your phone.
- Restart your phone.
- Install Google Wallet again from the App Store or Google Play.
- Sign in and restore from backup if the app offers it.
This often frees a lot of space. You may need to download some media again after restore.
What to do next
After Google Wallet is lighter, check your photo library for duplicates and similar shots. That is what Dedupo is for.
