Free up Grok storage
Grok chats live in your xAI / X account. Local storage is cache, generated images, and files you saved to Photos or Files. Clearing cache does not delete those cloud chats. If you also use Grok inside the X app, that is a different app listing in iPhone Storage or Android Apps.
See how much space Grok is using
iPhone
- Open the iPhone Settings app.
- Tap General > iPhone Storage.
- Tap Grok.
Android
- Open your phone Settings > Apps.
- Tap Grok.
- Tap Storage or Storage and cache.
Delete generated images saved on this phone
- Open Photos or Gallery and delete Grok images you saved.
- Empty Recently Deleted / Trash.
- Check Files or Downloads for exported pictures or videos.
Image generation is usually the only local media hog. The chat text stays on the account even if you delete the Photos copy.
Clear Grok cache on Android
- Open your phone Settings > Apps > Grok.
- Tap Storage or Storage and cache.
- Tap Clear cache.
Do not tap Clear storage / Clear data unless you mean to sign out and reset Grok. Cloud chats remain.
iPhone does not offer a separate Grok cache button. Offload or reinstall if the total stays high.
Reinstall the app if storage is still high
If you already cleaned media and Grok still looks huge, a fresh install can clear leftover cache and temp files that are hard to reach by hand.
- Chats stay in your xAI / X account. Save generated images that exist only on this phone. Reinstalling does not delete cloud chats.
- Delete the app from your phone.
- Restart your phone.
- Install Grok again from the App Store or Google Play.
- Sign in and restore from backup if the app offers it.
This often frees a lot of space. You may need to download some media again after restore.
What to do next
After Grok is lighter, check your photo library for duplicates and similar shots. That is what Dedupo is for.
