Free up app storage

Free up iHeart storage

iHeart (iHeartRadio) keeps offline podcast episodes and station leftovers on the phone. Followed shows, playlists, and your account stay in the cloud. Official help documents Downloaded Episodes. There is no WhatsApp-style Free up Storage screen.

See how much space iHeart is using

iPhone

  1. Open the iPhone Settings app.
  2. Tap General > iPhone Storage.
  3. Tap iHeart or iHeartRadio.

Android

  1. Open your phone Settings > Apps.
  2. Tap iHeartRadio.
  3. Tap Storage or Storage and cache.

Official help says downloaded episodes live under Your Library > Downloaded Episodes. Live station listening can also leave a smaller playback cache.

Delete downloaded podcast episodes

  1. Open iHeartRadio and tap Your Library.
  2. Scroll to Downloaded Episodes (official help also says Find Downloaded Episodes).
  3. Tap the pencil icon next to the section title.
  4. Tap the three dots next to an episode, then tap Delete.

To delete several at once, tap the edit button in the upper right and select multiple episodes. Official iPhone and Android articles use the same labels. The show stays in Your Podcasts. Only the offline file leaves this phone.

Offline playlists and station cache

  1. Open a playlist you saved offline and turn Offline off if that switch is shown. Official All Access help uses that toggle to take playlists offline.
  2. Unfollow stations or shows you do not need if they keep fetching new files.

Official help does not list a station-cache button. Live radio leftovers are temporary. Android Clear cache is the way to drop that pile. Downloaded episodes you still want offline stay until you delete them in Your Library.

Clear iHeart cache on Android

  1. Open your phone Settings > Apps > iHeartRadio.
  2. Tap Storage or Storage and cache.
  3. Tap Clear cache.

Do not tap Clear storage / Clear data unless you mean to reset iHeart on this phone. That signs you out and removes local downloads. Followed shows stay on the account.

iPhone does not offer a separate iHeart cache button. Delete items in Downloaded Episodes, or offload the app in iPhone Storage if the system total stays high.

Reinstall the app if storage is still high

If you already cleaned media and iHeart still looks huge, a fresh install can clear leftover cache and temp files that are hard to reach by hand.

  1. Sign in first. Followed shows and playlists stay on the account. Offline episodes need to be downloaded again. Station cache rebuilds as you listen.
  2. Delete the app from your phone.
  3. Restart your phone.
  4. Install iHeart again from the App Store or Google Play.
  5. Sign in and restore from backup if the app offers it.

This often frees a lot of space. You may need to download some media again after restore.

What to do next

After iHeart is lighter, check your photo library for duplicates and similar shots. That is what Dedupo is for.
