Free up app storage

Free up IMO storage

IMO keeps chat photos, videos, voice notes, stickers, and leftover files from video calls on this phone. Call cache and busy group chats are usually the biggest reason it grows.

See how much space IMO is using

iPhone

  1. Open the iPhone Settings app.
  2. Tap General > iPhone Storage.
  3. Tap imo.

Android

  1. Open your phone Settings > Apps.
  2. Tap imo.
  3. Tap Storage or Storage and cache.

IMO does not have a WhatsApp-style Free up Storage screen. Use the system total, then delete chats and media inside IMO.

Delete chats and their media

  1. Open IMO and go to the chat list.
  2. Tap and hold the chat.
  3. Tap Delete.

IMO's help says this removes the chat and the media stored for it on this phone. The other person keeps their copy.

Clear chat history

  1. On the chat list, tap the menu (three dots).
  2. Tap Settings.
  3. Tap Clear chat history.
  4. Choose the chats, then confirm.

Use this when you want the thread gone without hunting each one on the list.

Manage downloaded media

  1. Open Settings (chat list menu > Settings).
  2. Tap Media.
  3. Delete downloaded media you do not need, or turn off automatic media download.

After auto-download is off, photos and videos load when you tap them. That is the strongest way to stop IMO from filling the phone again.

Remove unused stickers

  1. Open a chat and tap the emoji / sticker button.
  2. Open a pack you do not use.
  3. Tap and hold it, then tap Delete.

Clear IMO cache on Android

  1. Open your phone Settings > Apps > imo.
  2. Tap Storage or Storage and cache.
  3. Tap Clear cache.

Do not tap Clear storage / Clear data unless you mean to reset IMO. That signs you out and wipes local chat files.

iPhone does not offer a separate IMO cache button. Offload or delete the app in iPhone Storage if the system total stays high after you delete media.

Reinstall the app if storage is still high

If you already cleaned media and IMO still looks huge, a fresh install can clear leftover cache and temp files that are hard to reach by hand.

  1. IMO chats are tied to your phone number. Save photos and files you care about first. Call history and some media may need to download again after you sign in.
  2. Delete the app from your phone.
  3. Restart your phone.
  4. Install IMO again from the App Store or Google Play.
  5. Sign in and restore from backup if the app offers it.

This often frees a lot of space. You may need to download some media again after restore.

What to do next

After IMO is lighter, check your photo library for duplicates and similar shots. That is what Dedupo is for.
