Free up Adobe Lightroom storage
Lightroom mobile backs photos up to Adobe cloud. What fills the phone is local originals, smart previews, and albums you chose to Store Locally. Cloud storage and phone storage are different numbers. Clearing local copies does not delete photos that already synced.
See how much space Lightroom is using
- Open Lightroom.
- Open the sidebar / menu.
- Tap Device Info and Storage (some versions split this as Device Info / Storage).
Open Manage Storage to see local cache versus albums stored on this device. Your Creative Cloud quota is a separate total under account / cloud storage.
iPhone
- Open iPhone Settings > General > iPhone Storage > Lightroom.
Android
- Open your phone Settings > Apps > Lightroom > Storage or Storage and cache.
There is no WhatsApp-style Free up Storage screen. Manage Storage is the real control.
Release locally stored albums
- Open an album you stored for offline editing.
- Turn off Store Locally if it is on (Android album menu documents this).
- Then open Device Info and Storage > Manage Storage and clear the offline content Lightroom still holds.
Photos stay in the cloud. They download again when you open them. Unsynced imports that never uploaded are the exception. Wait until the cloud icon shows they are backed up.
Use smaller local files
- Open Lightroom preferences / cloud and sync settings (Account or Preferences, depending on version).
- Turn on Download only lower-resolution files (or download only reduced resolution) if you see it.
- Leave original downloads off unless you need them for AI tools or print work.
Lower-resolution local files still edit. Originals remain in Adobe cloud.
Exports in Photos or Files
Share / Export writes a new JPEG or video into Photos, Gallery, or Files. That copy is outside Lightroom. Delete extras there, including Recently Deleted / Trash.
Clear Lightroom cache on Android
- Open your phone Settings > Apps > Lightroom.
- Tap Storage or Storage and cache.
- Tap Clear cache.
Prefer Manage Storage inside Lightroom first. Do not tap Clear storage / Clear data unless you mean to reset Lightroom. Confirm every keeper has synced to the cloud first.
iPhone does not offer a separate Lightroom cache button in system Settings. Use Device Info and Storage inside Lightroom instead.
Reinstall the app if storage is still high
If you already cleaned media and Adobe Lightroom still looks huge, a fresh install can clear leftover cache and temp files that are hard to reach by hand.
- Photos that synced to Adobe cloud stay there. Unsynced local imports can be lost if they never uploaded.
- Delete the app from your phone.
- Restart your phone.
- Install Adobe Lightroom again from the App Store or Google Play.
- Sign in and restore from backup if the app offers it.
This often frees a lot of space. You may need to download some media again after restore.
What to do next
After Adobe Lightroom is lighter, check your photo library for duplicates and similar shots. That is what Dedupo is for.
