Free up LINE storage
LINE keeps photos, videos, voice notes, and files from chats on this phone. Cache is safe to clear. Deleted chat data cannot be restored. LINE also keeps media on its servers for a limited time, so save anything important before you delete it.
See how much space LINE is using
- Open LINE.
- Tap the Home tab.
- Tap the gear (Settings).
- Tap Chats > Delete data.
This screen lists cache and chat data. You can also tap Delete data by chat to see chats from largest to smallest.
Clear LINE cache
- Open Home > Settings > Chats > Delete data.
- Next to Cache, tap Clear.
Cache is temporary. Clearing it does not delete chat history. Older photos or videos may not open again if LINE's storage period for that file has already ended.
Delete data from one chat
- Open the chat.
- Tap the menu, then Settings.
- Tap Delete data.
- On iPhone, you can open All periods and pick a time range.
- Tap Delete next to photos, videos, voice messages, or files, or tap Delete all chat data and messages.
Once that data is gone, LINE cannot restore it.
Delete the largest chats first
- Open Home > Settings > Chats > Delete data.
- Tap Delete data by chat.
- Open the chats at the top of the list.
- Delete photos, videos, or all chat data for those rooms.
Group chats and albums are usually the biggest items.
Delete data from all chats
- Open Home > Settings > Chats > Delete data.
- Tap Delete next to the content type you want to remove, or tap Delete all data > Delete.
Use this only if you are sure. It clears that media (or everything) across every chat on this phone.
Keep Memo and albums
Items you sent to Keep Memo still use space until you delete them there: open Keep Memo, tap and hold an item, then tap Delete.
Album cache is separate. If albums feel slow or heavy, use LINE's album cache clear from the same Settings > Chats area when you see it.
Offload LINE on iPhone if the app itself is huge
- Open iPhone Settings > General > iPhone Storage.
- Tap LINE.
- Tap Offload App, then Reinstall App.
Offload removes the app binary and keeps documents and data. Use Delete data inside LINE if the documents and data number is the large one.
Clear LINE cache on Android
- Open your phone Settings > Apps > LINE.
- Tap Storage or Storage and cache.
- Tap Clear cache.
Do not tap Clear storage / Clear data unless you mean to reset LINE. Prefer Delete data inside LINE so you can choose cache vs chat history.
Reinstall the app if storage is still high
If you already cleaned media and LINE still looks huge, a fresh install can clear leftover cache and temp files that are hard to reach by hand.
- Save important photos and files out of LINE first. Deleted chat data cannot be restored, and LINE only keeps media on its servers for a limited time.
- Delete the app from your phone.
- Restart your phone.
- Install LINE again from the App Store or Google Play.
- Sign in and restore from backup if the app offers it.
This often frees a lot of space. You may need to download some media again after restore.
What to do next
After LINE is lighter, check your photo library for duplicates and similar shots. That is what Dedupo is for.
