Free up MediaFire storage
MediaFire files live in your MediaFire account. This phone stores downloads, files waiting to upload, and a preview cache. Clearing cache does not delete MediaFire files. Deleting a file in MediaFire does.
See how much space MediaFire is using
iPhone
- Open the iPhone Settings app.
- Tap General > iPhone Storage.
- Tap MediaFire.
Android
- Open your phone Settings > Apps.
- Tap MediaFire.
- Tap Storage or Storage and cache.
Delete local downloads
- Open MediaFire and find downloaded items (often a Downloads list or files with a downloaded icon).
- Remove the local download if you only need the cloud copy.
Also check the phone Downloads / Files app. MediaFire Download often saves a second copy there. That copy is a user file. Deleting it does not remove the MediaFire original.
Upload cache
Files still uploading sit on this phone. Wait until Transfers finish before you clear data or reinstall. Cancelled or failed uploads can leave temp files; those go away when you clear cache, not when you delete the cloud file.
Clear cache
- Open MediaFire settings if there is a Clear cache item, or use Android app storage (below).
Cache is previews. Trash / deleted MediaFire files are account data. Emptying Trash is permanent.
Clear MediaFire cache on Android
- Open your phone Settings > Apps > MediaFire.
- Tap Storage or Storage and cache.
- Tap Clear cache.
Do not tap Clear storage / Clear data unless you mean to sign out. Unfinished uploads on this phone can be lost.
Reinstall the app if storage is still high
If you already cleaned media and MediaFire still looks huge, a fresh install can clear leftover cache and temp files that are hard to reach by hand.
- Files already in MediaFire stay. Finish uploads first. Downloads saved to this phone are local unless you uploaded them back.
- Delete the app from your phone.
- Restart your phone.
- Install MediaFire again from the App Store or Google Play.
- Sign in and restore from backup if the app offers it.
This often frees a lot of space. You may need to download some media again after restore.
What to do next
After MediaFire is lighter, check your photo library for duplicates and similar shots. That is what Dedupo is for.
