Free up Microsoft Edge storage
Edge stores cached images and files, site data, Downloads, and Collections extras on this phone. Cached files are safe to clear. Clearing cookies signs you out of websites.
See how much space Edge is using
iPhone
- Open the iPhone Settings app.
- Tap General > iPhone Storage.
- Tap Edge or Microsoft Edge.
Android
- Open your phone Settings > Apps.
- Tap Microsoft Edge.
- Tap Storage or Storage and cache.
Clear browsing data
- Open Edge and tap the menu (three dots).
- Tap Settings > Privacy > Clear browsing data (some versions say Privacy and security).
- Choose a time range. All time frees the most cache.
- Check Cached images and files.
- Leave passwords and autofill unchecked unless you mean to remove them.
- Tap Clear data.
Also check cookies and site data only if you want those logins gone. History is not the large item.
Delete downloads
- Open Edge menu > Downloads.
- Delete files you do not need.
- Remove leftovers in the Files or Downloads app, including Recently Deleted / Trash.
Clear browsing data does not always remove files already saved to Downloads.
Site data and Collections
- Open Edge Settings > Privacy / Site settings and delete data for a heavy site.
- Open Collections and remove saved pages or images you downloaded into a collection.
Collections can keep extra copies. They are not the same as your Microsoft account files in OneDrive.
Clear Edge cache on Android
- Open your phone Settings > Apps > Microsoft Edge.
- Tap Storage or Storage and cache.
- Tap Clear cache.
Do not tap Clear storage / Clear data unless you mean to reset Edge and sign out of Microsoft in the browser.
Reinstall the app if storage is still high
If you already cleaned media and Microsoft Edge still looks huge, a fresh install can clear leftover cache and temp files that are hard to reach by hand.
- Favorites and Collections sync if you use a Microsoft account. Keep Downloads you still need. Reinstalling signs you out of sites on this phone.
- Delete the app from your phone.
- Restart your phone.
- Install Microsoft Edge again from the App Store or Google Play.
- Sign in and restore from backup if the app offers it.
This often frees a lot of space. You may need to download some media again after restore.
What to do next
After Edge is lighter, check your photo library for duplicates and similar shots. That is what Dedupo is for.
