Free up Microsoft PowerPoint storage
PowerPoint decks live in OneDrive, SharePoint, or on this phone. Media inside a deck (video, high-res photos) is why Recents and offline copies get huge. Clearing cache does not delete OneDrive files. Deleting a local deck that was never uploaded does.
See how much space PowerPoint is using
iPhone
- Open the iPhone Settings app.
- Tap General > iPhone Storage.
- Tap PowerPoint.
Android
- Open your phone Settings > Apps.
- Tap PowerPoint.
- Tap Storage or Storage and cache.
Offline files and Recents
- Open PowerPoint > Open / Recents.
- Remove offline copies of decks you can open from OneDrive later.
Cloud decks stay. Device-only .pptx files are user files. Copy them before you delete.
Autosave cache and media
AutoSave writes to OneDrive while you work. Recovered presentations are unsynced user work, not cache. Videos inserted into a deck are part of the file. Deleting the PowerPoint cache does not strip media out of a saved .pptx.
Copies in Files or Downloads
Save a Copy and email attachments leave extra decks on the phone. Delete those copies if the OneDrive original exists.
Clear PowerPoint cache on Android
- Open your phone Settings > Apps > PowerPoint.
- Tap Storage or Storage and cache.
- Tap Clear cache.
Do not tap Clear storage / Clear data unless you mean to reset the app. Local unsynced decks can be lost.
Reinstall the app if storage is still high
If you already cleaned media and Microsoft PowerPoint still looks huge, a fresh install can clear leftover cache and temp files that are hard to reach by hand.
- OneDrive and SharePoint decks stay. Save any presentation that lives only on this phone, including recovered AutoSave copies.
- Delete the app from your phone.
- Restart your phone.
- Install Microsoft PowerPoint again from the App Store or Google Play.
- Sign in and restore from backup if the app offers it.
This often frees a lot of space. You may need to download some media again after restore.
What to do next
After Microsoft PowerPoint is lighter, check your photo library for duplicates and similar shots. That is what Dedupo is for.
