Free up app storage

Free up MX Player storage

MX Player stores online downloads, subtitle files, and a playback cache. Local videos that already live in your phone folders stay there. Removing a download or clearing cache does not delete those originals.

See how much space MX Player is using

iPhone

  1. Open the iPhone Settings app.
  2. Tap General > iPhone Storage.
  3. Tap MX Player.

Android

  1. Open your phone Settings > Apps.
  2. Tap MX Player.
  3. Tap Storage or Storage and cache.

MX Player does not have a WhatsApp-style storage screen. Check Downloads in the app and the MX Player folder on Android.

Delete downloads

  1. Open MX Player and go to Downloads or the Online / downloaded section.
  2. Tap and hold a title, then delete it.

Local videos in Folders stay on the phone. Only files MX Player downloaded itself are removed here.

Remove subtitle cache

  1. Open MX Player Settings (menu or profile).
  2. Look for subtitle, online, or cache options.
  3. Clear downloaded subtitles if that action is shown.

Subtitles are small next to video downloads, but a long history of auto-fetched files still adds up.

Clear MX Player cache on Android

  1. Open your phone Settings > Apps > MX Player.
  2. Tap Storage or Storage and cache.
  3. Tap Clear cache.

Do not tap Clear storage / Clear data unless you mean to reset MX Player on this phone. That signs you out of online features and can remove downloads stored only inside the app. Videos in other folders stay.

iPhone does not offer a separate MX Player cache button. Delete downloads in the app, or offload it in iPhone Storage if the system total stays high.

Reinstall the app if storage is still high

If you already cleaned media and MX Player still looks huge, a fresh install can clear leftover cache and temp files that are hard to reach by hand.

  1. Online downloads and subtitle cache will need to be fetched again. Videos that already live in phone folders stay. Sign in again if you use MX Player online features.
  2. Delete the app from your phone.
  3. Restart your phone.
  4. Install MX Player again from the App Store or Google Play.
  5. Sign in and restore from backup if the app offers it.

This often frees a lot of space. You may need to download some media again after restore.

What to do next

After MX Player is lighter, check your photo library for duplicates and similar shots. That is what Dedupo is for.
