Free up MyFitnessPal storage
MyFitnessPal caches the food database, barcode art, and meal photos you attach. Diary entries stay on your MyFitnessPal account after you sign in. Barcode cache and photos are the local leftover.
See how much space MyFitnessPal is using
iPhone
- Open the iPhone Settings app.
- Tap General > iPhone Storage.
- Tap MyFitnessPal.
Android
- Open your phone Settings > Apps (or Apps and notifications).
- Tap MyFitnessPal.
- Tap Storage or Storage and cache.
Meal photos are the part that can grow. The diary itself is small.
Meal photos
- Open a diary entry that has a photo.
- Remove photos you do not need. Copies in Camera Roll stay until you delete them there.
Nutrition numbers stay on the account. The picture is optional local media.
Barcode and food cache
Android Clear cache drops leftover food images. The next barcode scan may take a moment to fetch art. Your streak and diary stay after you sign in.
Clear MyFitnessPal cache on Android
- Open your phone Settings > Apps > MyFitnessPal.
- Tap Storage or Storage and cache.
- Tap Clear cache.
Do not tap Clear storage / Clear data unless you mean to reset MyFitnessPal on this phone. That signs you out. Cloud diary stays. Unlinked local diary entries can disappear.
iPhone does not offer a separate MyFitnessPal cache button. Use the in-app steps on this page, or offload the app in iPhone Storage if the system total stays high.
Reinstall the app if storage is still high
If you already cleaned media and MyFitnessPal still looks huge, a fresh install can clear leftover cache and temp files that are hard to reach by hand.
- Sign in first. Diary entries stay on your MyFitnessPal account. Meal photos in Camera Roll are separate.
- Delete the app from your phone.
- Restart your phone.
- Install MyFitnessPal again from the App Store or Google Play.
- Sign in and restore from backup if the app offers it.
This often frees a lot of space. You may need to download some media again after restore.
What to do next
After MyFitnessPal is lighter, check your photo library for duplicates and similar shots. That is what Dedupo is for.
