Free up Notability storage
In Notability, notes, PDFs, and audio recordings are the data. Recordings are often the largest files. There is little safe cache to wipe. Deleting a note or emptying Recently Deleted can permanently remove the only copy if iCloud or Auto-backup has not finished.
See how much space Notability is using
- Open the iPhone or iPad Settings app.
- Tap General > iPhone Storage / iPad Storage.
- Tap Notability.
Confirm backup before you delete
- Open Notability > Settings.
- Check iCloud and Auto-backup (Google Drive, Dropbox, OneDrive, or Box, if you use them).
- Export any note that is not backed up: share as PDF or Notability note to Files.
Audio recordings, imported PDFs, and photos sit inside the note. They are not a separate cache.
Remove notes you do not need
- In the library, select a note or subject.
- Tap Delete only after you have an export or a finished Auto-backup.
Deleted notes go to Recently Deleted, then they are permanently gone. Emptying Recently Deleted is permanent.
Recordings
Lecture recordings are user files. Delete a recording only if you mean to lose that audio. Export it first if you might need it later.
Reinstall the app if storage is still high
If you already cleaned media and Notability still looks huge, a fresh install can clear leftover cache and temp files that are hard to reach by hand.
- Export notes or confirm iCloud and Auto-backup have finished. Recordings and PDFs live inside those notes. Reinstalling without a backup can permanently delete them.
- Delete the app from your phone.
- Restart your phone.
- Install Notability again from the App Store or Google Play.
- Sign in and restore from backup if the app offers it.
This often frees a lot of space. You may need to download some media again after restore.
What to do next
After Notability is lighter, check your photo library for duplicates and similar shots. That is what Dedupo is for.
