Free up app storage

Free up OkCupid storage

OkCupid caches Discover photos and conversation images on this phone. Intros, likes, and messages stay on your OkCupid account. Photo cache and chat media are the local leftover.

See how much space OkCupid is using

iPhone

  1. Open the iPhone Settings app.
  2. Tap General > iPhone Storage.
  3. Tap OkCupid.

Android

  1. Open your phone Settings > Apps (or Apps and notifications).
  2. Tap OkCupid.
  3. Tap Storage or Storage and cache.

A full Messages list with lots of profile photos is the usual reason OkCupid looks large.

Photo cache

Cards you already Liked or Passed still leave photos on the phone. OkCupid Help does not document a WhatsApp-style Free up Storage screen. Android Clear cache removes those copies. Matches stay. Pictures load again when you open a profile.

Chat media

  1. Open Messages and open a conversation that has photos.
  2. Save anything you want to Photos before you reset the app.
  3. Pass or unmatch only if you also want that thread gone from OkCupid, not just from cache.

OkCupid Help counts mailbox size on the account (5,000 messages on a free account, unlimited when paid). That is server storage, not the phone cache. Clearing cache does not empty the mailbox.

Clear OkCupid cache on Android

  1. Open your phone Settings > Apps > OkCupid.
  2. Tap Storage or Storage and cache.
  3. Tap Clear cache.

Do not tap Clear storage / Clear data unless you mean to reset OkCupid on this phone. That signs you out. Messages stay on the account. Local chat media can need to reload.

iPhone does not offer a separate OkCupid cache button. Use the in-app steps on this page, or offload the app in iPhone Storage if the system total stays high.

Reinstall the app if storage is still high

If you already cleaned media and OkCupid still looks huge, a fresh install can clear leftover cache and temp files that are hard to reach by hand.

  1. Intros and messages stay on your OkCupid account. Save chat photos you care about first. Photo cache downloads again as you browse.
  2. Delete the app from your phone.
  3. Restart your phone.
  4. Install OkCupid again from the App Store or Google Play.
  5. Sign in and restore from backup if the app offers it.

This often frees a lot of space. You may need to download some media again after restore.

What to do next

After OkCupid is lighter, check your photo library for duplicates and similar shots. That is what Dedupo is for.
