Free up app storage

Free up PayPal storage

PayPal caches receipts, help articles, and a few document previews. Activity stays on your PayPal account. The app is usually small. Statements you saved as PDF live in Files.

See how much space PayPal is using

iPhone

  1. Open the iPhone Settings app.
  2. Tap General > iPhone Storage.
  3. Tap PayPal.

Android

  1. Open your phone Settings > Apps (or Apps and notifications).
  2. Tap PayPal.
  3. Tap Storage or Storage and cache.

If PayPal looks large, check Files for exported statements before you blame the app cache.

Cache and saved PDFs

Android Clear cache drops previews. It does not cancel payments. PDF statements in Downloads are separate. Delete those in Files if you still have copies.

Clear PayPal cache on Android

  1. Open your phone Settings > Apps > PayPal.
  2. Tap Storage or Storage and cache.
  3. Tap Clear cache.

Do not tap Clear storage / Clear data unless you mean to reset PayPal on this phone. That signs you out. Money stays on the PayPal account.

iPhone does not offer a separate PayPal cache button. Use the in-app steps on this page, or offload the app in iPhone Storage if the system total stays high.

Reinstall the app if storage is still high

If you already cleaned media and PayPal still looks huge, a fresh install can clear leftover cache and temp files that are hard to reach by hand.

  1. Balances and activity stay on your PayPal account. Sign in again after reinstall. You may need to confirm the device.
  2. Delete the app from your phone.
  3. Restart your phone.
  4. Install PayPal again from the App Store or Google Play.
  5. Sign in and restore from backup if the app offers it.

This often frees a lot of space. You may need to download some media again after restore.

What to do next

After PayPal is lighter, check your photo library for duplicates and similar shots. That is what Dedupo is for.
