Free up app storage

Free up Samsung Internet storage

Samsung Internet stores cached images and files, site data, Downloads, and leftover Secret mode data on Android. Cached files are safe to clear. Downloads stay in My Files until you delete them. This browser is for Galaxy phones. There is no iPhone version.

See how much space Samsung Internet is using

  1. Open your phone Settings > Apps.
  2. Tap Internet or Samsung Internet.
  3. Tap Storage or Storage and cache.

Clear browsing data

  1. Open Samsung Internet and tap the menu (three lines or tabs tray, then the gear).
  2. Tap Settings > Privacy (some versions say Pages and Privacy or Personal data).
  3. Tap Clear browsing data / Delete browsing data.
  4. Check cached images and files (cache).
  5. Check cookies and site data only if you want to sign out of websites.
  6. Confirm.

Leave saved passwords unchecked unless you mean to remove them. History is not the large storage item.

Delete downloads

  1. Open Samsung Internet menu > Downloads.
  2. Delete files you do not need.
  3. Also open My Files > Downloads and empty Trash there.

Clear browsing data does not always remove files already saved to Downloads.

Secret mode leftovers

Secret mode still uses cache while a session is open. Close Secret mode tabs when you are done. Then clear browsing data. Secret mode is not a second Downloads folder, but it can leave cache until you close it.

Site data

  1. Open Settings > Privacy / site permissions.
  2. Open a site and clear its data, or clear all site data with browsing data.

Clear Samsung Internet cache in Android Settings

  1. Open your phone Settings > Apps > Internet.
  2. Tap Storage or Storage and cache.
  3. Tap Clear cache.

Do not tap Clear storage / Clear data unless you mean to reset the browser and sign out of Samsung and websites on this phone.

Reinstall the app if storage is still high

If you already cleaned media and Samsung Internet still looks huge, a fresh install can clear leftover cache and temp files that are hard to reach by hand.

  1. Bookmarks sync if you are signed in to your Samsung account. Keep Downloads you still need in My Files. Reinstalling signs you out of sites on this phone.
  2. Delete the app from your phone.
  3. Restart your phone.
  4. Install Samsung Internet again from the App Store or Google Play.
  5. Sign in and restore from backup if the app offers it.

This often frees a lot of space. You may need to download some media again after restore.

What to do next

After Samsung Internet is lighter, check your photo library for duplicates and similar shots. That is what Dedupo is for.
