Free up app storage

Free up Shazam storage

Shazam keeps a history of identified songs, short audio snippets, and a cache if you play tracks through Apple Music. Your Shazam history can stay on your Apple Account. Clearing cache and old history removes copies on this phone.

See how much space Shazam is using

iPhone

  1. Open the iPhone Settings app.
  2. Tap General > iPhone Storage.
  3. Tap Shazam.

Android

  1. Open your phone Settings > Apps.
  2. Tap Shazam.
  3. Tap Storage or Storage and cache.

Shazam does not have a WhatsApp-style storage screen. Most of the size is history, artwork, snippets, and Apple Music playback cache.

Delete old Shazams from Library

  1. Open Shazam and go to your library / My Music / history list.
  2. Swipe a song (or tap and hold), then tap Delete or Remove.

Deleting a Shazam from this phone does not remove the song from Apple Music or Spotify. It only removes that history row and its local artwork.

Clear Apple Music playback cache

If Shazam plays full songs through Apple Music, those files can sit in Music downloads. Open iPhone Settings > Music > Downloaded Music and remove tracks you do not need offline. On Android, clear Shazam cache (steps below) and remove downloads in the Apple Music app if you use it.

Clear Shazam cache on Android

  1. Open your phone Settings > Apps > Shazam.
  2. Tap Storage or Storage and cache.
  3. Tap Clear cache.

Do not tap Clear storage / Clear data unless you mean to reset Shazam on this phone. That signs you out and can wipe local history that has not synced.

iPhone does not offer a separate Shazam cache button. Delete history in the app, or offload Shazam in iPhone Storage if the system total stays high.

Reinstall the app if storage is still high

If you already cleaned media and Shazam still looks huge, a fresh install can clear leftover cache and temp files that are hard to reach by hand.

  1. Local snippets and cache will be gone. Sign in so Shazam history can come back from your Apple Account. Full songs in Apple Music stay in that library.
  2. Delete the app from your phone.
  3. Restart your phone.
  4. Install Shazam again from the App Store or Google Play.
  5. Sign in and restore from backup if the app offers it.

This often frees a lot of space. You may need to download some media again after restore.

What to do next

After Shazam is lighter, check your photo library for duplicates and similar shots. That is what Dedupo is for.
