Free up app storage

Free up Spark storage

Spark shows your existing mail accounts in a Smart Inbox. Messages stay on Gmail, iCloud, Exchange, or IMAP. This phone stores Smart Inbox cache, pinned threads, and attachments you downloaded. Clearing cache does not delete server mail. Emptying Trash in the account does.

See how much space Spark is using

iPhone

  1. Open the iPhone Settings app.
  2. Tap General > iPhone Storage.
  3. Tap Spark.

Android

  1. Open your phone Settings > Apps.
  2. Tap Spark.
  3. Tap Storage or Storage and cache.

Attachments

  1. Open a message and download an attachment only when you need it.
  2. Delete leftover files in Files or Downloads.

Saved attachments are user files. Spark cache is not those files.

Smart Inbox cache

  1. Open Spark > Settings (gear or profile).
  2. Look for Clear cache, storage, or download settings.

Smart Inbox, Pin, and Snooze are views on server mail. Resetting cache rebuilds those views. It does not empty Gmail or iCloud.

Trash

Deleting in Spark moves the message to that account's Trash. Empty Trash there if you want it gone for good after the provider's retention. That is permanent for the mailbox.

Clear Spark cache on Android

  1. Open your phone Settings > Apps > Spark.
  2. Tap Storage or Storage and cache.
  3. Tap Clear cache.

Do not tap Clear storage / Clear data unless you mean to sign out of every account in Spark.

Reinstall the app if storage is still high

If you already cleaned media and Spark still looks huge, a fresh install can clear leftover cache and temp files that are hard to reach by hand.

  1. Mail stays in each connected account. Save Spark-only Drafts if you use them. You will add the accounts again after reinstall.
  2. Delete the app from your phone.
  3. Restart your phone.
  4. Install Spark again from the App Store or Google Play.
  5. Sign in and restore from backup if the app offers it.

This often frees a lot of space. You may need to download some media again after restore.

What to do next

After Spark is lighter, check your photo library for duplicates and similar shots. That is what Dedupo is for.
