Free up Spotify storage
Spotify keeps offline downloads and a playback cache so songs start quickly and work without data. Playlists and Liked Songs stay on your account. Removing downloads only deletes the copies on this phone.
See how much space Spotify is using
iPhone
- Open Spotify and tap the gear (Settings).
- Tap Storage.
You can also open the iPhone Settings app > General > iPhone Storage > Spotify.
Android
- Open Spotify and tap the gear (Settings).
- Tap Storage.
The system total is also in phone Settings > Apps > Spotify > Storage or Storage and cache. Spotify does not have a WhatsApp-style storage list. Use Storage in the app, then Downloaded in Your Library.
Remove downloads from Your Library
- Open the Your Library tab.
- Tap Downloaded (or filter to downloaded playlists, albums, and podcasts).
- Open a playlist, album, or podcast you do not need offline.
- Tap the download icon so it turns off, or use Remove download if that label is shown.
The playlist stays in Your Library. Only the offline files leave this phone. Spotify can fetch the songs again over Wi-Fi later.
Remove all downloads
- Open Spotify Settings > Storage.
- Tap Remove Downloads (some versions say Remove all downloads).
- Confirm.
Use this when many playlists are downloaded and you want the space back in one step.
Clear the Spotify cache
- Open Spotify Settings > Storage.
- Tap Clear cache if you see it.
Cache is temporary playback data, not your library. Songs you still have marked for offline stay downloaded unless you also remove downloads.
Use Offline mode only when you need it
- Open Spotify Settings > Storage (or look under Data Saver on some versions).
- Turn Offline mode on only when you want to play what is already on the phone.
Offline mode does not delete files. It just stops Spotify from using the network. Turn it off when you want to stream again.
Stop new downloads from filling the phone
- Open Spotify Settings.
- Open Audio quality or Data Saver.
- Lower Download quality, and turn off automatic downloads for playlists you do not need offline.
- Prefer Wi-Fi for downloads if that toggle is shown.
High download quality is the usual reason a few playlists take several gigabytes.
Clear Spotify cache on Android
- Open your phone Settings > Apps > Spotify.
- Tap Storage or Storage and cache.
- Tap Clear cache.
Do not tap Clear storage / Clear data unless you mean to reset Spotify on this phone. That signs you out and removes local downloads. Liked Songs and playlists stay on your account.
iPhone does not offer a separate Spotify cache button. Use Settings > Storage inside Spotify instead.
Reinstall the app if storage is still high
If you already cleaned media and Spotify still looks huge, a fresh install can clear leftover cache and temp files that are hard to reach by hand.
- Downloads will need to be re-downloaded after you sign in. Your account keeps Liked Songs, playlists, and podcasts.
- Delete the app from your phone.
- Restart your phone.
- Install Spotify again from the App Store or Google Play.
- Sign in and restore from backup if the app offers it.
This often frees a lot of space. You may need to download some media again after restore.
What to do next
After Spotify is lighter, check your photo library for duplicates and similar shots. That is what Dedupo is for.
