Free up Strava storage
Strava stores activity files, photos you attach, and offline maps you downloaded. Activities stay on your Strava account. Offline maps and activity photos are the large local parts. They are not junk.
See how much space Strava is using
iPhone
- Open the iPhone Settings app.
- Tap General > iPhone Storage.
- Tap Strava.
Android
- Open your phone Settings > Apps (or Apps and notifications).
- Tap Strava.
- Tap Storage or Storage and cache.
A year of rides with photos plus offline regions can outgrow the app binary.
Offline maps
- Open Strava and tap You or the map tab.
- Open Offline maps or Settings > maps (label depends on version).
- Delete regions you do not ride or run anymore.
You can download a region again on Wi-Fi. Live map use still works online without those packs.
Activity photos
- Open an activity that has a large photo.
- Photos you added also sit in Camera Roll if you snapped them on this phone.
- Delete the copy you do not need (in Strava, in Photos, or both).
The GPS activity stays on Strava if you only remove a photo. Clearing Android cache does not delete the activity list.
Clear Strava cache on Android
- Open your phone Settings > Apps > Strava.
- Tap Storage or Storage and cache.
- Tap Clear cache.
Do not tap Clear storage / Clear data unless you mean to reset Strava on this phone. That signs you out. Cloud activities stay. Offline maps must be downloaded again.
iPhone does not offer a separate Strava cache button. Use the in-app steps on this page, or offload the app in iPhone Storage if the system total stays high.
Reinstall the app if storage is still high
If you already cleaned media and Strava still looks huge, a fresh install can clear leftover cache and temp files that are hard to reach by hand.
- Activities stay on your Strava account. Offline maps and local photo copies do not. Download maps again if you still want them on this phone.
- Delete the app from your phone.
- Restart your phone.
- Install Strava again from the App Store or Google Play.
- Sign in and restore from backup if the app offers it.
This often frees a lot of space. You may need to download some media again after restore.
What to do next
After Strava is lighter, check your photo library for duplicates and similar shots. That is what Dedupo is for.
