Free up app storage

Free up Taobao storage

Taobao caches product photos, live video, and short clips. Orders and chat stay on your Taobao / Alibaba account. Live video cache is often the large number.

See how much space Taobao is using

iPhone

  1. Open the iPhone Settings app.
  2. Tap General > iPhone Storage.
  3. Tap Taobao.

Android

  1. Open your phone Settings > Apps (or Apps and notifications).
  2. Tap Taobao.
  3. Tap Storage or Storage and cache.

The number is mostly product photos, listing videos, and browse cache on this phone. Orders stay on your account.

Clear product photos and video cache

Taobao keeps listing images and product videos so the feed scrolls smoothly. That cache is safe to drop. Saved items, orders, and your cart stay on the account.

  1. Open Taobao and tap your profile or the person icon.
  2. Open Settings (or Account > Settings).
  3. Look for Clear cache, Storage, or Free up space.
  4. Confirm the clear if Taobao shows a size.

If there is no in-app button, use Android Clear cache below. The next browse will download images again.

Taobao Settings includes a storage or cache cleaner on most versions. Use that after live shopping.

Live video

Taobao Live leaves large files even when you only watched. Clearing cache removes those copies. Followed live rooms stay on the account.

Clear Taobao cache on Android

  1. Open your phone Settings > Apps > Taobao.
  2. Tap Storage or Storage and cache.
  3. Tap Clear cache.

Do not tap Clear storage / Clear data unless you mean to reset Taobao on this phone. That signs you out. Orders stay on the Taobao account.

iPhone does not offer a separate Taobao cache button. Use the in-app steps on this page, or offload the app in iPhone Storage if the system total stays high.

Reinstall the app if storage is still high

If you already cleaned media and Taobao still looks huge, a fresh install can clear leftover cache and temp files that are hard to reach by hand.

  1. Orders, saved items, and your account stay with the store. You only need to sign in again after reinstall.
  2. Delete the app from your phone.
  3. Restart your phone.
  4. Install Taobao again from the App Store or Google Play.
  5. Sign in and restore from backup if the app offers it.

This often frees a lot of space. You may need to download some media again after restore.

What to do next

After Taobao is lighter, check your photo library for duplicates and similar shots. That is what Dedupo is for.
