Free up TextNow storage
TextNow keeps MMS photos, videos, voice notes, and voicemail on this phone so threads open fast. TextNow's help says messages and call history are backed up to their servers, so cache is safe to clear. The heavy local part is media you already downloaded.
See how much space TextNow is using
iPhone
- Open the iPhone Settings app.
- Tap General > iPhone Storage.
- Tap TextNow.
Android
- Open your phone Settings > Apps.
- Tap TextNow.
- Tap Storage or Storage and cache.
TextNow does not have a WhatsApp-style Free up Storage screen. Use the system total, then delete MMS and voicemail you do not need.
Delete MMS photos and videos
- Open the conversation.
- Tap and hold a photo, video, or file.
- Tap Delete.
Start with long picture threads. Save anything you still want to Photos first.
Delete conversations
- On the inbox, tap and hold a thread (iPhone: swipe left).
- Tap Delete.
TextNow keeps server-side history for the number. A thread you delete here may still exist in the account after you sign in again, but local media is gone until it downloads.
Delete voicemail
- Open the Voicemail or calls tab.
- Open a message, or tap and hold it.
- Tap Delete.
Voicemail audio is larger than text. Clear old messages if you never listen to them again.
Clear TextNow cache on Android
- Open your phone Settings > Apps > TextNow.
- Tap Storage or Storage and cache.
- Tap Clear cache.
TextNow's own help prefers uninstall, reboot, reinstall to clear leftover data. Do not tap Clear storage / Clear data unless you mean to reset the app on this phone. They say messages, call history, and the number stay on their servers.
iPhone does not offer a separate TextNow cache button. Use delete app + restart + reinstall if the system total stays high.
Reinstall the app if storage is still high
If you already cleaned media and TextNow still looks huge, a fresh install can clear leftover cache and temp files that are hard to reach by hand.
- TextNow says messages, call history, and your number stay on their servers. Restart the phone after you delete the app, then install a fresh copy. Save MMS photos you care about first.
- Delete the app from your phone.
- Restart your phone.
- Install TextNow again from the App Store or Google Play.
- Sign in and restore from backup if the app offers it.
This often frees a lot of space. You may need to download some media again after restore.
What to do next
After TextNow is lighter, check your photo library for duplicates and similar shots. That is what Dedupo is for.
