Free up Tinder storage
Tinder caches profile photos from people you swipe and media from chats. Matches and the account stay on Tinder. Photo cache and chat media are the local pile.
See how much space Tinder is using
iPhone
- Open the iPhone Settings app.
- Tap General > iPhone Storage.
- Tap Tinder.
Android
- Open your phone Settings > Apps (or Apps and notifications).
- Tap Tinder.
- Tap Storage or Storage and cache.
A long match list with lots of pictures is the usual reason Tinder looks large.
Photo cache
Cards you already swiped still leave photos on the phone. Android Clear cache removes those copies. Matches stay. Pictures load again when you open a profile.
Chat media
- Open a chat that has a lot of photos or videos.
- Save anything you want to Photos before you reset the app.
- Unmatch or delete a conversation only if you also want it gone from Tinder, not just from cache.
Clearing cache is not the same as deleting a match. Chat photos may need to load again from Tinder.
Clear Tinder cache on Android
- Open your phone Settings > Apps > Tinder.
- Tap Storage or Storage and cache.
- Tap Clear cache.
Do not tap Clear storage / Clear data unless you mean to reset Tinder on this phone. That signs you out. Matches stay. Local chat media can need to reload.
iPhone does not offer a separate Tinder cache button. Use the in-app steps on this page, or offload the app in iPhone Storage if the system total stays high.
Reinstall the app if storage is still high
If you already cleaned media and Tinder still looks huge, a fresh install can clear leftover cache and temp files that are hard to reach by hand.
- Matches stay on your Tinder account. Save chat photos you care about first. Photo cache downloads again as you swipe.
- Delete the app from your phone.
- Restart your phone.
- Install Tinder again from the App Store or Google Play.
- Sign in and restore from backup if the app offers it.
This often frees a lot of space. You may need to download some media again after restore.
What to do next
After Tinder is lighter, check your photo library for duplicates and similar shots. That is what Dedupo is for.
