Free up Uber storage
Uber caches map tiles, driver photos, and receipts you opened. Trip history stays on your Uber account. The app is usually modest. Maps cache is the part that grows in a new city.
See how much space Uber is using
iPhone
- Open the iPhone Settings app.
- Tap General > iPhone Storage.
- Tap Uber.
Android
- Open your phone Settings > Apps (or Apps and notifications).
- Tap Uber.
- Tap Storage or Storage and cache.
Receipts and payment methods are on the account. Local leftovers are maps and images.
Maps and receipt cache
Uber does not give a WhatsApp-style storage screen. Android Clear cache drops map tiles and driver photos. Past trips stay in the account Activity list.
Downloads you saved yourself
PDF receipts you exported sit in Files or Downloads. Delete those copies there if you still have them. Clearing Uber cache does not remove Files.
Clear Uber cache on Android
- Open your phone Settings > Apps > Uber.
- Tap Storage or Storage and cache.
- Tap Clear cache.
Do not tap Clear storage / Clear data unless you mean to reset Uber on this phone. That signs you out. Trip history stays on the Uber account.
iPhone does not offer a separate Uber cache button. Use the in-app steps on this page, or offload the app in iPhone Storage if the system total stays high.
Reinstall the app if storage is still high
If you already cleaned media and Uber still looks huge, a fresh install can clear leftover cache and temp files that are hard to reach by hand.
- Trip history and payment methods stay on your account. Sign in again after reinstall.
- Delete the app from your phone.
- Restart your phone.
- Install Uber again from the App Store or Google Play.
- Sign in and restore from backup if the app offers it.
This often frees a lot of space. You may need to download some media again after restore.
What to do next
After Uber is lighter, check your photo library for duplicates and similar shots. That is what Dedupo is for.
