Free up Venmo storage

Venmo caches payment photos, social-feed pictures, and profile art. Transactions stay on your Venmo account. The social feed is why the cache grows.

See how much space Venmo is using

iPhone

  1. Open the iPhone Settings app.
  2. Tap General > iPhone Storage.
  3. Tap Venmo.

Android

  1. Open your phone Settings > Apps (or Apps and notifications).
  2. Tap Venmo.
  3. Tap Storage or Storage and cache.

Payment notes with photos are the local media.

Photo cache

Friends' payment photos sit in cache. Android Clear cache removes them. The payments stay on the account. Photos load again when you open the feed.

Privacy if you want less media

  1. Open Venmo Settings > Privacy.
  2. Limit the public feed if you do not want to keep loading other people's photos.

Clear Venmo cache on Android

  1. Open your phone Settings > Apps > Venmo.
  2. Tap Storage or Storage and cache.
  3. Tap Clear cache.

Do not tap Clear storage / Clear data unless you mean to reset Venmo on this phone. That signs you out. Balances stay on the account.

iPhone does not offer a separate Venmo cache button. Use the in-app steps on this page, or offload the app in iPhone Storage if the system total stays high.

Reinstall the app if storage is still high

If you already cleaned media and Venmo still looks huge, a fresh install can clear leftover cache and temp files that are hard to reach by hand.

  1. Payments stay on your Venmo account. Sign in again after reinstall. You may need to confirm the device.
  2. Delete the app from your phone.
  3. Restart your phone.
  4. Install Venmo again from the App Store or Google Play.
  5. Sign in and restore from backup if the app offers it.

This often frees a lot of space. You may need to download some media again after restore.

What to do next

After Venmo is lighter, check your photo library for duplicates and similar shots. That is what Dedupo is for.
