Free up VK storage
VK caches messages, community posts, photos, and videos so the feed and chats open fast. Downloaded music and saved videos are separate from cache. VK's own help: clearing cache does not delete downloaded audio.
See how much space VK is using
iPhone
- Open the iPhone Settings app.
- Tap General > iPhone Storage.
- Tap VK.
Android
- Open your phone Settings > Apps.
- Tap VK.
- Tap Storage or Storage and cache.
You can also clear cache inside VK (steps below). There is no WhatsApp-style Free up Storage screen for individual chat files.
Clear cache inside VK
- Open VK and tap Menu (three lines).
- Tap the more menu (three dots) > Settings.
- Tap App.
- Scroll down and tap Clear cache.
This is the path VK documents. It frees feed, community, and image cache. Downloaded music stays until you remove it separately.
Delete downloaded videos and music
- Open Video or Music in VK.
- Open Downloads / saved / offline content.
- Remove videos and tracks you do not need on this phone.
Offline video is often larger than chat cache. Clear that list if VK still looks huge after Clear cache.
Delete media from messages
- Open the chat.
- Tap and hold a photo, video, or file.
- Tap Delete.
You can also delete a whole conversation from the Messages list. The other person keeps their copy.
Clear VK cache on Android
- Open your phone Settings > Apps > VK.
- Tap Storage or Storage and cache.
- Tap Clear cache.
Do not tap Clear storage / Clear data unless you mean to reset VK and sign in again. Wall posts and messages stay on your account.
iPhone does not offer a separate system cache button. Use Clear cache inside VK, or offload the app in iPhone Storage.
Reinstall the app if storage is still high
If you already cleaned media and VK still looks huge, a fresh install can clear leftover cache and temp files that are hard to reach by hand.
- You do not need a chat backup. Messages, communities, and cloud videos stay on your VK account. Sign in again after reinstall. Offline downloads will need to be saved again.
- Delete the app from your phone.
- Restart your phone.
- Install VK again from the App Store or Google Play.
- Sign in and restore from backup if the app offers it.
This often frees a lot of space. You may need to download some media again after restore.
What to do next
After VK is lighter, check your photo library for duplicates and similar shots. That is what Dedupo is for.
