Free up Waze storage
Waze is a live traffic app. It does not work like Google Maps offline packs. Full offline maps are not typical. Storage on this phone is usually cache, voice packs, and leftover map tiles. Look in Waze Settings for Storage or a voice / map cache row. If those are missing, use Android cache or offload on iPhone.
See how much space Waze is using
iPhone
- Open the iPhone Settings app.
- Tap General > iPhone Storage.
- Tap Waze.
Android
- Open your phone Settings > Apps.
- Tap Waze.
- Tap Storage or Storage and cache.
Storage, voice, and map cache in Waze
- Open Waze and tap the menu (search / profile area, then Settings).
- Open Settings.
- Look for Storage, map cache, or voice language / navigation voice downloads.
- Clear cache if Waze offers it. Remove extra voice packs you do not use.
Labels move between versions. If you do not see Storage, Waze is not hiding a secret offline-map library. Skip ahead to Android cache or reinstall.
Clear Waze cache on Android
- Open your phone Settings > Apps > Waze.
- Tap Storage or Storage and cache.
- Tap Clear cache.
Do not tap Clear storage / Clear data unless you mean to sign out and reset Waze, including favorites stored only on this phone.
iPhone does not offer a separate Waze cache button. Offload or reinstall if iPhone Storage still lists it as large after you remove extra voices.
Reinstall the app if storage is still high
If you already cleaned media and Waze still looks huge, a fresh install can clear leftover cache and temp files that are hard to reach by hand.
- Favorites and your Waze account stay online if you are signed in. Waze is not an offline-map app, so you are not backing up map packs. Note any local favorites before you reset.
- Delete the app from your phone.
- Restart your phone.
- Install Waze again from the App Store or Google Play.
- Sign in and restore from backup if the app offers it.
This often frees a lot of space. You may need to download some media again after restore.
What to do next
After Waze is lighter, check your photo library for duplicates and similar shots. That is what Dedupo is for.
