Free up Xiaohongshu storage

Xiaohongshu (also listed as rednote) caches feed photos, watch videos, and saved notes so they play fast. It also keeps unfinished drafts on this phone. Posted notes stay on your account. Clearing cache does not delete them.

See how much space Xiaohongshu is using

In the app

  1. Open Xiaohongshu and tap Me.
  2. Tap the menu or gear > Settings.
  3. Open General / General Settings > Storage / Storage space.

Xiaohongshu’s FAQ lists cache size here. That is this phone, not your whole account.

iPhone

  1. Open iPhone Settings > General > iPhone Storage > Xiaohongshu or rednote.

Android

  1. Open your phone Settings > Apps > Xiaohongshu or rednote > Storage.

Clear watch cache

Xiaohongshu FAQ: Settings > General > Storage space > Clear cache. The FAQ says this does not delete your notes and account data.

  1. Open Storage / Storage space (steps above).
  2. Tap Clear cache or Clean next to cache.
  3. Confirm.

Temporary watch files and thumbnails go away. Likes, collections, and posted notes stay. Videos may take a moment to load again.

Delete drafts

  1. Open Storage / Storage space.
  2. Tap Manage next to note drafts if Xiaohongshu shows a size there.
  3. Select drafts you do not need, then Delete.

You can also open Me and tap local drafts / My drafts, then Edit. Clearing cache does not delete drafts. Deleting a draft is permanent on this phone. Save photos to the camera roll first if you still want them.

Saved videos and copies in Photos

Notes you saved or collected stay on the account. A video you downloaded or saved to Photos is a separate file. Delete extras in Photos or Gallery, including Recently Deleted / Trash. Posted notes stay on the account.

Clear Xiaohongshu cache on Android

  1. Open your phone Settings > Apps > Xiaohongshu or rednote.
  2. Tap Storage or Storage and cache.
  3. Tap Clear cache.

Prefer the in-app Storage screen first. Do not tap Clear storage / Clear data unless you mean to reset the app. That signs you out and can delete local drafts.

iPhone does not offer a separate Xiaohongshu cache button. Use Settings > General > Storage space inside the app, or offload in iPhone Storage if the system total stays high.

Reinstall the app if storage is still high

If you already cleaned media and Xiaohongshu still looks huge, a fresh install can clear leftover cache and temp files that are hard to reach by hand.

  1. Posted notes stay on your Xiaohongshu account. Save drafts you still want to Photos first. They live on this phone.
  2. Delete the app from your phone.
  3. Restart your phone.
  4. Install Xiaohongshu again from the App Store or Google Play.
  5. Sign in and restore from backup if the app offers it.

This often frees a lot of space. You may need to download some media again after restore.

What to do next

After Xiaohongshu is lighter, check your photo library for duplicates and similar shots. That is what Dedupo is for.
