Free up app storage

Free up YouTube Kids storage

YouTube Kids stores offline videos on this phone when downloads or Smart Downloads are on (YouTube Premium in many regions, and some country-specific offline modes). Watch history is separate. Parent settings sit behind a math problem or custom passcode.

See how much space YouTube Kids is using

  1. Open YouTube Kids.
  2. Open Your stuff (or the Downloads category on the home screen).
  3. Tap Downloads.

That list is what is saved on this phone. For the system total:

iPhone

  1. Open iPhone Settings > General > iPhone Storage > YouTube Kids.

Android

  1. Open your phone Settings > Apps > YouTube Kids > Storage or Storage and cache.

There is no WhatsApp-style Free up Storage screen. Downloads are the main local files.

Delete one downloaded video

  1. Find the video in Downloads or on the watch screen.
  2. Tap More.
  3. Tap Delete from downloads.

Delete all downloads

  1. Tap Settings in the corner of YouTube Kids.
  2. Solve the math problem or enter the parent passcode.
  3. Tap Background and Downloads.
  4. Tap Delete downloads.

Turn off Smart Downloads

  1. Open parent Settings > Background and Downloads.
  2. Turn Smart downloads off.
  3. Turn on Download over Wi-Fi only if you still want hand-picked downloads.
  4. Lower Download quality so new files stay smaller.

Smart Downloads can put up to about 20 videos on the phone and refresh them. If you leave it on, space fills again after you delete files.

Clear YouTube Kids cache on Android

  1. Open your phone Settings > Apps > YouTube Kids.
  2. Tap Storage or Storage and cache.
  3. Tap Clear cache.

Do not tap Clear storage / Clear data unless you mean to reset YouTube Kids. That can sign out profiles and remove downloads.

iPhone does not offer a separate YouTube Kids cache button. Delete downloads inside the app, then offload it in iPhone Storage if the total stays high.

Reinstall the app if storage is still high

If you already cleaned media and YouTube Kids still looks huge, a fresh install can clear leftover cache and temp files that are hard to reach by hand.

  1. Parent settings and watch history stay with the profile. Downloads live only on this phone.
  2. Delete the app from your phone.
  3. Restart your phone.
  4. Install YouTube Kids again from the App Store or Google Play.
  5. Sign in and restore from backup if the app offers it.

This often frees a lot of space. You may need to download some media again after restore.

What to do next

After YouTube Kids is lighter, check your photo library for duplicates and similar shots. That is what Dedupo is for.
