Free up YouTube TV storage
YouTube TV keeps a playback cache for live TV and cloud DVR. Some titles can also be downloaded for offline viewing. Recordings stay in your cloud DVR. Removing a download or clearing cache only deletes files on this phone.
See how much space YouTube TV is using
iPhone
- Open the iPhone Settings app.
- Tap General > iPhone Storage.
- Tap YouTube TV.
Android
- Open your phone Settings > Apps.
- Tap YouTube TV.
- Tap Storage or Storage and cache.
YouTube TV does not have a WhatsApp-style storage screen. Cloud DVR lives on your account. Local size is cache plus any Downloads.
Remove Downloads
- Open YouTube TV and go to Library.
- Open Downloads if you see it.
- Remove titles you do not need offline.
Deleting a Library download does not delete the cloud DVR recording. You can stream that recording again later.
Trim cloud DVR (account, not this phone)
- Open Library and review recordings.
- Delete shows you no longer want in the cloud DVR if you need account space. That is separate from phone storage.
Clearing the phone cache does not remove cloud DVR. Those recordings stay until you delete them in Library.
Clear YouTube TV cache on Android
- Open your phone Settings > Apps > YouTube TV.
- Tap Storage or Storage and cache.
- Tap Clear cache.
Do not tap Clear storage / Clear data unless you mean to reset YouTube TV on this phone. That signs you out and removes local downloads. Cloud DVR stays on your Google account.
iPhone does not offer a separate YouTube TV cache button. Remove Downloads in Library, or offload the app in iPhone Storage if the system total stays high.
Reinstall the app if storage is still high
If you already cleaned media and YouTube TV still looks huge, a fresh install can clear leftover cache and temp files that are hard to reach by hand.
- Downloads will need to be re-downloaded after you sign in. Your Google account keeps cloud DVR, Library, and history.
- Delete the app from your phone.
- Restart your phone.
- Install YouTube TV again from the App Store or Google Play.
- Sign in and restore from backup if the app offers it.
This often frees a lot of space. You may need to download some media again after restore.
What to do next
After YouTube TV is lighter, check your photo library for duplicates and similar shots. That is what Dedupo is for.
