Free up Zalo storage

Zalo stores chat photos, videos, files, voice notes, Official Account (OA) media, and cache on this phone. Zalo's help says message data lives on the device for privacy, so the app grows over time. Back up before you delete a lot, or use zCloud if you already pay for cloud keep.

See how much space Zalo is using

1. Open Zalo.
2. Tap the Personal tab (Me / your profile).
3. Tap Storage and data (Vietnamese builds say Dung lượng và dữ liệu).

Zalo shows the total on this device, chat data, cache, and other data. The number can differ slightly from the phone's system storage page.

Clean cache

1. Open Storage and data.
2. Tap Clean cache (or Dọn dẹp bộ nhớ đệm).

Zalo says cache is temporary (stickers you downloaded, feed content you viewed). Cleaning it does not delete your chats.

Clean chat data

1. Open Storage and data.
2. Under chat data, tap View and clean (or Xem và dọn dẹp).
3. Open the largest conversation.
4. Sort by size, or filter Photos - Videos, Files, and voice messages.
5. Select items you do not need, then tap Delete.

This is Zalo's official cleanup. It is not a WhatsApp-style global Free up Storage dump of every file at once. Work room by room, largest first.

Zalo reuses one file if you forwarded it to many chats. Deleting that file removes it from every related conversation on this phone.

Official Accounts and other data

1. In Storage and data, check Other data at the bottom.
2. OA threads and brand chats often hide large files here.
3. Hidden chats do not show on the storage page. Unhide them, then delete media inside those threads.
4. Data from another Zalo account you used on this phone stays until you sign into that account and clean it.

Back up with zCloud if you need the history

1. Open Personal.
2. Open zCloud or backup settings if you use them.
3. Run a backup before a large delete or a reinstall.

Without a backup, deleted chat media on this phone may be gone. Zalo is explicit that local storage is the copy you have.

Clear Zalo cache on Android

1. Open your phone Settings > Apps > Zalo.
2. Tap Storage or Storage and cache.
3. Tap Clear cache.

Do not tap Clear storage / Clear data unless you mean to reset Zalo. That can wipe local chats that were never backed up.

iPhone does not offer a separate Zalo cache button. Use Clean cache inside Zalo instead.

Reinstall the app if storage is still high

If you already cleaned media and Zalo still looks huge, a fresh install can clear leftover cache and temp files that are hard to reach by hand.

1. Back up with zCloud or Zalo backup first. Chat media lives on this phone. Without a backup, reinstalling can delete conversations and files.
2. Delete the app from your phone.
3. Restart your phone.
4. Install Zalo again from the App Store or Google Play.
5. Sign in and restore from backup if the app offers it.

This often frees a lot of space. You may need to download some media again after restore.
