Free up Zoom storage
Zoom on a phone caches meeting chat, shared files, profile images, and leftover session data. Cloud recordings live on your Zoom account, not as a second movie in the mobile app. Local (computer) recording is a desktop feature only. Zoom's own help says you cannot record locally from iOS or Android.
See how much space Zoom is using
iPhone
- Open the iPhone Settings app.
- Tap General > iPhone Storage.
- Tap ZOOM Cloud Meetings or Zoom.
Android
- Open your phone Settings > Apps.
- Tap Zoom.
- Tap Storage or Storage and cache.
Zoom mobile does not have a WhatsApp-style Free up Storage screen. The number you see is mostly the app plus cache and any files you downloaded.
Clear Zoom cache on Android
- Open your phone Settings > Apps > Zoom.
- Tap Storage or Storage and cache.
- Tap Clear cache.
This is the Zoom-documented mobile cleanup on Android. Do not tap Clear storage / Clear data unless you mean to reset Zoom and sign in again.
Clear Zoom on iPhone
- Open iPhone Settings > General > iPhone Storage.
- Tap Zoom.
- Tap Offload App if you want to keep login data, or Delete App to remove Documents and Data.
- Reinstall Zoom from the App Store and sign in.
Zoom's help for iOS cache is delete and reinstall. There is no separate in-app cache button on iPhone.
Delete downloaded meeting files
- Open Zoom and look under Meetings, Documents, or a meeting chat for files you saved.
- If Zoom sent a copy to Files or Downloads, delete it there.
- Cloud recordings: sign in at zoom.us > Recordings (or Recordings & Transcripts) and delete ones you do not need. That frees Zoom cloud storage, not always the phone.
If you recorded on a computer, those files sit in Documents/Zoom on that computer. They are not inside the phone app.
Use less data in meetings
- Open Zoom and tap Settings (profile / More).
- Open Meetings or Data usage if you see it.
- Turn off HD video, or turn on data-saving / incoming video off when you join from this phone.
That slows how fast new meeting leftovers pile up. It does not delete files already cached.
Reinstall the app if storage is still high
If you already cleaned media and Zoom still looks huge, a fresh install can clear leftover cache and temp files that are hard to reach by hand.
- You do not need a chat backup. Meetings, contacts, and cloud recordings stay on your Zoom account. Sign in again after reinstall. Delete any files you saved to Files or Downloads first if you do not need them.
- Delete the app from your phone.
- Restart your phone.
- Install Zoom again from the App Store or Google Play.
- Sign in and restore from backup if the app offers it.
This often frees a lot of space. You may need to download some media again after restore.
What to do next
After Zoom is lighter, check your photo library for duplicates and similar shots. That is what Dedupo is for.
